Valeria Maltoni on standing out with content

Great post today by Valeria Maltoni in which she discusses how to use content to stand out. This is becoming more and more difficult as greater numbers of people realize the value of content marketing. One point made the whole article for me.

She says,

Standing out is easier when you know who you are looking to attract. Because then you can tailor your content to their specific needs.

This is the first step that I think too many marketers skip/miss/ignore. They want to get to putting content out there, having it “go viral” and starting to rake in the money. They avoid the important first steps of determing who they are trying to reach and what they are interested in. Without that, how do they know if what they are doing is successful?

The article goes on to discuss Process, Schedule, Research and Writing, but that first point really jumped off the screen because without it, none of the other steps can help you stand out.

If you aren’t putting content out there that can shine through the fog of the overwhelming volume of content available today, it won’t matter how diligently you stick to your schedule.

It’s a great read with some excellent tips on building a process of creating useful content.
